Jennifer Lopez announces Las Vegas residency

The announcement follows news that American Idol will film its 15th and final season in 2016.

LAS VEGAS, May 12 (UPI) -- Jennifer Lopez is headed for Sin City.

The 45-year-old singer, actress and American Idol judge announced Tuesday that her Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood will begin January 2016.

"So excited!!!" Lopez wrote on Instagram. "This is going to be the show I've always dreamed of creating."

Planet Hollywood described Lopez's planned show as the perfect combination of a cutting-edge production spectacular and an extraordinarily fun night-out, all centered around a supremely talented international superstar."

In a statement, Lopez said the show would be a "multifaceted high energy Jenny from the Block party."

Tickets go on sale May 15.

Lopez's Las Vegas announcement comes just a day after Fox pulled the plug on American Idol, which will film its 15th and final season next year. Lopez, along with the rest of the Idol judges, are all expected to return.
