NEW YORK, May 11 (UPI) -- Reese Witherspoon and the cast of Saturday Night Live opened the show over the weekend with a monologue that paid tribute to their forgiving mothers. "Now that I'm a mother myself, I finally understand what my mother went through with me," Witherspoon, the second-time SNL host and mother of three, told the audience.

"I was a full-on nightmare from the ages of 5 to 37," Witherspoon said.
The 39-year-old invited the mothers of SNL cast members on stage so they could personally apologize for the trouble they caused as children.
"Hey Mom, remember those sandwiches you used to make me in school? They had basil and stuff in them and took forever to make? Yeah, I threw them all in the trash," Jay Pharoah told his mom.
WItherspoon was also joined by her own mother, Betty, and apologized for the time she lied about sleeping at a friend's house when she was really planning a night in a hotel room with her boyfriend.
Betty accepted Witherspoon's apology, but couldn't resist sharing a montage of videos of the SNL cast as children.
"Me and the other moms have something we want to apologize for," Betty said. "We're sorry that we're about to show a bunch of home videos of you kids."
