LOS ANGELES, April 22 (UPI) -- Derek Hough was injured during Dancing with the Stars rehearsal Monday.

The 29-year-old professional dancer was preparing for the ABC reality competition's 10th anniversary special when he smashed his foot on a piece of equipment and later rolled his ankle, former dancing partner Maria Menounos told E! News.

Menounos shared a video from their rehearsal session on Instagram, along with a photo of the staircase where Hough hurt his ankle. Hough spent the night in the E.R. at the hospital with Menounos, dancers Corky and Mark Ballas and singer BC Jean by his side.

"Nothing worse than seeing a fellow dancer get hurt especially your brother," Mark Ballas captioned a picture of himself with Hough. Hough has not explicitly addressed his injury, but did post "Your setback is a platform for your comeback" on Tuesday.

Hough is partnered with Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin for season 20. The pair have excelled in competition, and are tied with Allison Holker and singer Riker Lynch for the highest average score. Dancing with the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
