'Big Ang' recovering from throat surgery

Doctors only discovered the reality star's throat tumor recently.

NEW YORK, April 8 (UPI) -- Angela Raiola is in recovery following a lengthy surgery Tuesday.

The 54-year-old Mob Wives star, aka Big Ang, had a large tumor removed from her throat, and remains at Columbia University Medial Center New York-Presbyterian hospital.

Doctors only discovered the tumor recently, with Raiola confirming the news on her Facebook page last week. The reality star's sister, Janine Detore, updated fans on Raiola's condition via Instagram following the procedure.

"@bigangvh1 had a extremely long nerve racking surgery today she's now in recovery resting," she shared. "I wanna thank each & everyone of you for reaching out to us and praying for her & my family today."

Mob Wives co-star Renee Graziano added in her own post, "Everyone will be happy to hear #bigangs surgery was a success. She's rest comfortably and with the help of the wonderful hospital shes in should be a ok in a couple of weeks."

Mob Wives premiered on VH1 in 2011, with Raiola joining the cast in season two. The reality series follows several Staten Island women whose families are connected to the mafia, and finished a fifth season in March.
