David Lynch pulls out of 'Twin Peaks' revival

NEW YORK, April 5 (UPI) -- David Lynch has dropped out of Showtime's highly anticipated Twin Peaks reboot.

"Dear Twitter Friends, Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks," Lynch tweeted Sunday.

"After one year and four months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done," he added.

Lynch and Mark Frost co-created the original Twin Peaks series, which starred Kyle MacLachlan and ended after its second season in 1991. Lynch was set to direct the reboot, which would take place 25 years later.

Lynch added on Twitter that he called MacLachlan and other Twin Peaks stars to tell them that he would not direct the revival. But he also indicated that the series would go on with out him.

"Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime," he continued. "I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently."

Showtime said in a follow-up statement Sunday that they still want Lynch to direct.

"We were saddened to read David Lynch's statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points," the network said.

"Showtime also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm."
