Statue of Lucille Ball in hometown creeps residents out

CELORON, N.Y., April 3 (UPI) -- Lucille Ball's hometown residents want an unflattering statue of the comedienne removed as it looks "frightening" and not befitting the actress.

The statue was erected in Celoron, which is adjacent to where Ball was born in Jamestown, N.Y.

"I don't think this can be repaired," said a Jamestown man who wished to be anonymous. "Take a look at the beautiful statues Nick at Nite created for Bewitched and The Honeymooners and Bob Newhart ... it needs to be something more like those."

The Jamestown man started a Facebook page titled "We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue!"

Lucille Ball was born in Jamestown NY. She was raised and grew up in a town about a mile from Jamestown named Celoron. The people of Celoron have erected this horrible statue of Lucy in her hometown. It is a nightmare. We want them to replace it. Write to the Jamestown Post-Journal to let them know you are unhappy with this horrible tribute to our beloved Lucy.

Celoron Mayor Scott Schrecengost said it will cost between $8,000 and $10,000. He refuses to use tax dollars to fix it, but has set up a fund to raise money for a replacement.
