CANBERRA, Australia, March 26 (UPI) -- Actor Jon Hamm opened up about his recent rehab stint a day after news broke that he had completed a program for alcohol abuse.

"Life throws a lot at you sometimes and you have to deal with it as much as you can," Hamm, 44, told Australian magazine TV Week Wednesday.

"That's why you have family and friends and co-workers to help you with that," he continued. "I've been very fortunate that throughout the most recent 24 hour period. I've had a lot of family and friends support me. I guess that's all I will say about that."

Regarding speculation that playing the troubled Don Draper on the AMC show for so long could've been a contributing factor to his problem, Hamm said he didn't "have much to say about that either".

"I've said in varying ways that acting can be a difficult endeavour, certainly not as difficult as the recent example I used of being a baby heart surgeon. But, it does present its own challenges and so does life," he said.

The Mad Men star's comments come one day after his manager revealed his struggles with alcohol abuse in a statement. The communication also asked for privacy for Hamm and his longtime girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt "going forward."
