NEW YORK, March 25 (UPI) -- Richard Gere and Julia Roberts reunited Tuesday on Today.

The 65-year-old actor and 47-year-old actress celebrated the 25th anniversary of Pretty Woman with director Garry Marshall and co-stars Hector Elizondo and Laura San Giacomo.

Gere and Roberts portrayed businessman Edward Lewis and prostitute Vivian Ward in the 1990 film, and revealed the original script was very different than the romantic comedy Marshall released.

"At the end of the original script, Richard's character threw my character out of the car, threw the money on top of her, and drove away, and the credits rolled," Roberts said of the initial plot.

Pretty Woman marked Gere and Roberts' first film collaboration, and the actress said she had to persuade Gere to take the role. The actors teamed up once more for Runaway Bride in 1999.

"We loved each other immediately, it was a nice thing," Gere recalled. "She's across the desk and she takes a piece of paper, a Post-it, and she turns around and she pushes it to me and she says, 'Please says yes.' It was so sweet, and I said, 'I just said yes.'"

Gere last appeared in The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with Dev Patel, and is scheduled for Franny with Dakota Fanning and Oppenheimer Strategies with Dan Stevens. Roberts will star with Nicole Kidman in The Secret in Their Eyes and Money Monster with George Clooney.
