LOS ANGELES, March 24 (UPI) -- Vin Diesel is very confident about Furious 7's Oscar chances.

The 47-year-old star of the blockbuster Fast & Furious franchise recently told Variety that the film, which hits theaters April 3, will take next year's Oscar Award for Best Picture.

"Universal is going to have the biggest movie in history with this movie," Diesel said. "It will probably win Best Picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don't want to be relevant ever."

"This will win Best Picture," Diesel repeated. "There is nothing that will ever come close to the power of this thing."

Industry experts believe the final Fast & Furious film will sweep the April box office with a $115 million opening. But the franchise has never attracted major awards-show buzz.

Furious 7 will also feature late actor Paul Walker, who died Nov. 2014 in a car crash, in his last film appearance.
