LOS ANGELES, March 17 (UPI) -- Ansel Elgort says he and Insurgent co-star Shailene Woodley are just friends.

The 21-year-old actor asserted as much in an interview for the April issue of Seventeen. Elgort and Woodley portray siblings Caleb and Tris Prior in the Divergent series of films, and the star insisted his real-life relationship with the actress is also familial.

"Me and Shailene have a really platonic relationship. I've never once wanted her sexually, which is nice," he declared before adding, "For me, if a person is someone I'm attracted to, and she's my best friend, hopefully we're dating."

Elgort appeared to reconcile with high school sweetheart Violetta Komyshan in January, while Woodley was last linked to musician Nahko Bear. The 23-year-old actress previously told InStyle magazine she doesn't see herself ever dating another actor.

Elgort and Woodley attended the New York premiere of Insurgent on Monday. The movie is based on the second novel in the Divergent book series by Veronica Roth, and opens in theaters Friday. Kate Winslet, Theo James, Miles Teller and Octavia Spencer also star.
