LOS ANGELES, March 12 (UPI) -- Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. presented 7-year-old fan Alex with a bionic arm modeled after the superhero's suit as part of Microsoft's Collective Project.
The Collective Project is an effort to provide artificial limbs at a low cost to families with children who need them. Albert Manero, who founded the volunteer group Limbitless Solutions, is a doctoral student helping with this project by building 3-D printed bionic limbs for children in need.
Alex, a fan of superheroes and riding bikes, got a special order delivered care of a hero from the screen. He was born with a partially developed arm.
Downey met Alex and the two compared their bionic arms. He thinks Alex wore it better.
"Had the absolute privilege of presenting a brand spanking new 3D-printed bionic Iron Man arm to Alex, the most dapper 7-year-old I've ever met," Downey wrote on Facebook.
