LOS ANGELES, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Emma Watson has high praise for Steve Carell, who made a quiet fashion statement about gender equality at the Oscar Awards.

The 24-year-old actress recently took to Twitter to share a handwritten thank-you note she penned to the Best Actor nominee, after he chose to wear cufflinks celebrating Watson's #HeForShe campaign to the annual ceremony.

In the note, Watson referred to Carell as "pure genius" in Little Miss Sunshine and "mind-blowing" in Foxcatcher, then thanked the actor for supporting her cause.

Dear Steve Carell,

You were pure genius in "Little Miss Sunshine" (one of my all-time favourite films), my brother became obsessed with you in "Anchorman", I wanted to marry you or have you adopt me after "Crazy, Stupid, Love", I hated that guy you played in "The Way Way Back", and then you were mind-blowing in "Foxcatcher". I think you're so awesome and now you are wearing #HeForShe cufflinks at the Oscars to support Gender Equality. Couldn't be more proud! Thank you.

Love, Emma x

Watson launched the #HeForShe campaign, which aims to galvanize male support for gender equality and women's rights, at the United Nations last year.
