NEW YORK, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Three days after actress Uma Thurman caused controversy by sporting a new look at a red carpet event, the actress visited The Today Show Thursday looking like her old self.

"[I] guess nobody liked my makeup," she told Savannah Guthrie after stating she "looked weird" in photos from Monday's premiere of her new mini series The Slap.

Thurman, 44, sparked speculation that she underwent plastic surgery -- a la Renee Zellweger -- following her appearance earlier this week, but after years of being in the business the star knows better than to take things personal.

"I've been doing this for years and years and years -- people say things nice and they say things mean and it's like whatever," she said. "You take the good with the bad."

Makeup artist Troy Surratt, who created the look, told Refinery29 he "experimented" with Thurman's makeup for Monday's event.

"We did a much stronger brow and a bold lip for a French sort of feel. The way I shaded her eyebrows with the pencil, I created an uplifting effect. Then, I finished with a shimmering, silky-beige shadow on her lids, and went with no mascara at all," he explained. "Sort of a reaction against all the fake lashes we've been seeing on the red carpet."

Thurman's The Slap follows the ramifications that ensue when a guest slaps a child at a birthday party. The show also stars Melissa George, Thandie Newton, Peter Sarsgaard and Zachary Quinto and premieres Thursday on NBC.
