His stament comes days after director Paul Feig revealed on Twitter that Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon had been cast in the lead roles of Ghostbusters 3.

Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson portrayed the ghost-catching foursome in the first two films of the franchise which were released in 1984 and1989. Ackroyd will co-write the new film along with Katie Dippold, Feig and Ramis.
