COLLEGE PARK, Ga., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Rapper 2 Chainz is eyeing the political arena, saying he is planning to make a bid for mayor of his hometown, College Park, Ga.
He told XXLMag.com he was considering a run after receiving much support.
"I'm a musician, not a politician," he said. "I'm supposed to be running for mayor in College Park. I got everybody wishing. I'm really gonna do this little mayor thing in College Park. I'm just trying to make sure I have the right qualifications."
When he spoke to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Monday, he seemed more definite in his decision.
"I am looking forward to running at the end of this year or next year. [I'm] waiting to see if I meet all of the qualifications," 2 Chainz told the paper.
Current Mayor Jack Longino, who has been in the office for 20 years, said he is not worried about the competition.
If 2 Chainz "actually lives in College Park and wants to run and signs up, we'll let the people decide," he told the Daily Beast.
This isn't the first time the rapper has dug into politics. He went on Nancy Grace's show and his debate with the anchor about marijuana legalization went viral.
