Mindy Kaling sends Oscars-themed wreath to Reese Witherspoon

Kaling introduced the "Wreath Witherspoon" joke in the Christmas episode of her FOX sitcom "The Mindy Kaling Project."

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Mindy Kaling is carrying her "Wreath Witherspoon" joke into award season.

The 35-year-old actress introduced the joke -- a nod to Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon -- on the Christmas episode of her FOX sitcom The Mindy Kaling Project.

Fans soon started to create their own "Wreath Witherspoons" and shared pictures of them on Instagram and even Witherspoon herself got in on the joke.

Now, about a month later, Kaling has struck again by sending the Oscar-nominated actress an Academy Award-themed "Wreath Witherspoon."

The actress, who is nominated for an Oscar for her role in Wild, thanked Kaling for the "best gift ever" on Instagram.

Witherspoon's Oscar-nomination for Wild comes 10 years after she earned her first Academy Awards for her portrayal of June Carter in Walk The Line. This is her second nomination since earning the honor.
