LOS ANGELES, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Piper Perabo wont be reprising her role as Annie Walker on the USA Network series Covert Affairs as the network has chosen to cancel the series after five seasons.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision not to renew the show was a "business" one ultimately determined by the drama's decreasing viewership. While the procedural drama initially averaged 5 million total viewers in live-plus-same-day returns, the show's fifth and last season only averaged 1.5 million.

The series' last season ended with a big cliff hanger that left fans wondering in Peraboo's character would chose to join Joan's (Kari Matchett) in her CIA task force or accept Ryan's (Nic Bishop) marriage proposal.

Creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord told TV Guide after the season finale that they "always want to leave the audience satisfied but with questions."

"Even when we've done things that have been classified as cliff-hangers, we want the journey to have been a fun one and a worthy one, and one that the audience wants to come back for," said Corman. "We probably have left more questions than we ever have before with this one."

The duo and Perabo shared their goodbyes with fans on Twitter Tuesday after news broke about the cancellation.

Deadline also cited the increasing talent fees and expensive location shoots as added reasons for the cancellation.

Covert Affairs premiered in 2010.
