Eddie Redmayne, Hannah Bagshawe debut as newlyweds

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Eddie Redmayne and Hannah Bagshawe made their red carpet debut as a married couple over the weekend.

The 32-year-old actor and his new wife attended the 26th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival on Saturday. Redmayne received the 2015 Desert Palm Spring Achievement Award for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

Redmayne and Bagshawe have been together since 2012, and married in Somerset on December 15. The actor thanked his bride in his acceptance speech, and admitted it sounds "very weird" but "good weird" to call her wife.

The Theory of Everything is a biographical film based on Hawking's relationship with his first wife, Jane Wilde Hawking. James Marsh (Man on a Wire) directed the feature, with Felicity Jones as Jane. The movie opened in theaters Nov. 26.

Redmayne came to fame as a stage actor, and has appeared in such films as The Good Shepherd and Les Misérables. He is scheduled to star alongside Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis in Jupiter Ascending, and with Amber Heard in The Danish Girl.
