Neill Blomkamp reveals concept art for scrapped 'Alien' sequel

By Matt Bradwell

HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Fans of Ridley Scott's Alien franchise still embittered about 2012's poorly-received Prometheus can whet their appetite for Ripley and the original Xenomorphs with newly-released concept art from Neill Blomkamp's since-canceled sequel.

The images, uploaded to Blomkamp's Instagram account, show the Xenomorph queen, Weyland Yutani's headquarters and Ridley wearing the "space jockey" pilot mask.

Fans clamoring for the District 9 director's take on the iconic franchise may not be out of luck -- although the project is long-canceled, Blomkamp noted in the comments section of one of the photos that "Fox never said no," and even teased fans with "Maybe I'll go back to it ... Love the world."

Blomkamp and Alien star Sigorney Weaver may never meet on the set of one of Scott's films, but the pair worked together on Blomkamp's upcoming film Chappie, set to be released March 6.
