LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Selena Gomez has released a new video diary featuring the moment leading up to her emotional rendition of "The Heart Wants What I Wants" at the American Music Awards on Nov. 23.

Gomez, 22, cried onstage while performing the lead single from her new compilation album, For You, last month, and in the new behind-the-scenes clip she reveals how hard it was to keep a smile on her face throughout the act.

"I feel like on the day it'll be such a release," Gomez says in the video after being asked if its hard to smile at the end of the song.

"I'm just excited that people eveyrywhere who are feeling what I feel and feel that, will get to see that. I just want people to relate to that," she ads.

Gomez released "The Heart Wants What I Wants," a track believed to be about her on-and-off relationship with troubled pop star Justin Bieber, on Nov. 6.
