Joaquin Phoenix confessed on Good Morning America Tuesday, that he made up the engagement story he shared on the The Late Show with David Letterman Monday night because his life is "so boring."

"It seemed like something exciting to talk about, and I wanted the audience to like me," he said. "They really like people getting married."

"I can get engaged again, if you like," he added.

Original story:

During a visit to the The Late Show with David Letterman Monday, Joaquin Phoenix opened up about the time his yoga instructor taught him how to "harness the hog."

The 40-year-old actor got on the floor in a suit and black Converse shoes as he demonstrated the complicated yoga pose while Letterman tried to convince the audience it wasn't "real yoga." After a few minutes of complicated stretching, the actor said that wasn't even the "crazy part" of the story.

"We started dating and I think she's the one," he shared. "I proposed to her and she said yes." "So, you're getting married?" Letterman followed up.

"If everything works out, but yea," he answered, later adding, "I don't know what that says about me, probably nothing good."

"Well, you let her harness the hog, what are you going to do after your hog's been harnessed?" the host joked.

Phoenix is best known for his roles in the critically acclaimed films Her, The Master, Walk The Line and Gladiator. He will next star in Paul Thomas Anderson's comedy Inherent Vice and in an untitled Woody Allen project.
