LOS ANGELES, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Selena Gomez was able to spend time with longtime inspiration Jennifer Aniston on Friday. The 22-year-old singer attended a party in celebration of the 45-year-old actress' film Cake in Los Angeles. The pair got close and spoke at the event, and Gomez later shared a photo of herself with Aniston on Instagram.

"I have not only been following her career as a fan since I was eight and now get to watch her completely transform in her new movie 'Cake,' I have gotten to have real conversations with such a real heart, made my entire year. #cake #goseeit," she captioned the picture.

Cake is directed by Daniel Barnz, and stars Aniston as Claire Simmons. The character numbs her chronic pain with drugs and alcohol, and must confront her own tragedy after becoming obsessed with the suicide of another woman in her support group.
Gomez expressed her dedication to acting in October, and said she would like to learn and grow as an actress. She last appeared in William H. Macy drama Rudderless, a marked departure from her other films, and will next voice a character in Hotel Transylvania 2.
