LOS ANGELES, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Selena Gomez mimicked her emotional video for "The Heart Wants What It Wants" Sunday, and cried onstage during her performance at the American Music Awards.

Gomez took the stage in a simple, low cut, beige chiffon gown and stood in place while singing the love anthem, which has been speculated to be about her troubled relationship with singer Justin Bieber.

As Gomez sang, the screen behind her displayed a series of visual effects including a set of wings behind her and shattering glass.

At the end of the performance, a shaken Gomez thanked the audience and Jesus.

The 22-year-old singer released "The Heart Wants What It Wants" earlier this month as the first single from her upcoming compilation album, For You. The record, her first greatest hits album, was released on Nov. 24.
