Anna Faris and Chris Pratt detail struggles with premature son

NEW YORK, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Anna Faris and Chris Pratt have revealed they were "devastated" to learn their son Jack might grow up to be a special needs child after being born nine weeks premature.

The couple opened up about their struggles in a feature interview for GQ magazine -- which named the actor Man of The Year -- and where his wife shared that their son "was born at three pounds."

"We were told, 'Okay, you need to be prepared for raising a special-needs child,'" she said, adding that while they were scared, "[I]t also felt like, you know, 'We can do this.'"

"He's alive," Pratt added.

But Jack, who is now 2, grew up to be a perfectly healthy kid with no development problems apart from needing to wear glasses. Pratt said the experience "restored his faith" in God.

"Not that it needed to be restored, but it really redefined it," he explained. "The baby was so beautiful to us, and I look back at the photos of him and it must have been jarring for other people to come in and see him, but to us he was so beautiful and perfect."

Faris and Pratt met on the set of the Take Me Home Tonight in 2007 and married in 2009. The couple welcomed Jack in August 2012.
