The first car to ever be deemed a "Batmobile" is going up for auction after sitting in a field for almost 50 years.

The car was completed in 1963, after designs started in 1960, claims the auction website. The car was first used for everday transportation, until ALL STAR Dairies and its New Hampshire affiliate, Green Acres Ice Cream, which they say was a DC Comic Book licensee, leased it for a promotional campaign at the time.

It toured the East Coast as "Batman's Batmobile" and drew a crowd wherever it went. After the George Barris version of the Batmobile was made for television in 1966, it lost its celebrity. The car spent 50 years in a field before being restored in 2008. The design is based on the 1940s comic strip, and the car is a customized 1956 Oldsmobile 88.

The current opening bid for the car, at time of writing, is $90,000.
