NEW YORK, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Matthew Morrison is slated to make his return on Broadway in Finding Neverland.

The 36-year-old actor will portray J.M. Barrie, the Scottish author who created the character Peter Pan. Gary Barlow and Eliot Kennedy will write the score, with Harvey Weinstein as producer, Diane Paulus as director and Mia Michaels as choreographer.

"We couldn't be more thrilled to see Matthew returning to his Broadway roots," Weinstein said in a statement. "He is wildly talented and a true leading man."

Finding Neverland is based on the 2004 film of the same name starring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. The movie focuses on Barrie's relationship with Sylvia Llewelyn Davies and her sons, who provided the inspiration for his play, Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Never Grew Up.

Morrison is best known for portraying Will Schuester on Fox series Glee, which will return for a sixth and final season in 2015. The actor previously appeared in Footloose and The Rocky Horror Show on Broadway, and was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance as Link Larkin in Hairspray.
