NASHVILLE, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Crooning power couple Miranda Lambert and husband Blake Shelton grabbed major Country Music Association awards this year, with Shelton winning his fifth straight Male Vocalist of the Year nod. But it was Luke Bryan who walked away with the Entertainer of the Year win, his first award ever.
"I have some angels in heaven ... making this night possible for me," said a grateful Bryan, referring to his late brother and sister.
Lambert won four awards: a record fifth win in a row for Best Female Vocalist, along with Best Album for Platinum, Best Song for "Automatic," and Musical Event of the Year for her duet with Keith Urban, "We Were Us."
"I poured my heart and soul into this one more than ever, " said Lambert when she accepted her award for Platinum.
Little Big Town won its third straight award for Vocal Group of the Year, and Florida Georgia Line took the honors for Vocal Duo of the Year. Tracy Musgraves grabbed a win for Song of the Year for "Follow Your Arrow," and Brett Eldredge won the New Artist of the Year award after two No. 1 songs: "Don't Ya" and "Beat of the Music." Just three years ago he had to sneak into the Bridgestone Arena, where the event was held. "I was just dreaming of what it would be like to be up here," he said. "This is a dream."
