NEW YORK, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Taylor Swift has been named Global Welcome Ambassador to New York City.

NYC & Company, the city's official tourism organization, announced the news in a press release Monday. Swift will serve as the face of a global tourism campaign called "Welcome to New York" after her single of the same name.

"New York kind of pulled me here like a magnet," Swift explained in a promotional video. "I was intimidated by the fact that it was bright and bold and loud, and now I know that I should run towards things like that. I should run towards things that are absolutely, overwhelmingly electric."

The 24-year-old singer originally hails from Wyomissing, Pa., and moved to Nashville, Tenn., to pursue a career in country music at age 14. She relocated to New York City in March, and NYC & Company CEO Fred Dixon emphasized the city's hospitality in the statement.

"New York City is a truly welcoming city," he said. "We are pleased to work with Taylor Swift to welcome visitors from around the world, as she was welcomed this year, and couldn't have asked for a better synergy between Taylor and NYC & Company to tell our story about what makes New York City, New York City."

"Welcome to New York" appears on Swift's fifth studio album, 1989. The singer released the record Monday.
