LOS ANGELES, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Selena Gomez stopped by The Ellen Show monday to discuss how much things have changed over the past year.

Just in the past 10 months the 22-year-old actress has made headlines for firing her parents as managers, for buying and moving into her own house and for her alleged fights and ensuing reconciliations with her best friend Taylor Swift.

But Gomez seems to be happy with how things have turned out, telling host Ellen DeGeneres that she's enjoying not having "to check in all the time," now that she lives alone.

"...my mom is the sweetest ever, so even now she checks in on me," she shared. "She's like, 'I see online you're here. are you OK?' and I'm like, 'I'm fine, mom, I promise!'

On the subject of Swift, Gomez put to rest the never-ending rumors that they're feuding and admitted that the country star "wants to kidnap [her]" and relocate her to New York City.

"She's been begging me every time we get on the phone, 'cause it's been a really good thing for her," she explained. "You know, we've been friends for seven years and she really feels like she kind of stepped into her own and became a woman there, and she's like, 'All right, your turn!'"

Asked where she ranked herself in terms of self improvement, the Rudderless actress said: "I'm a 7."

"This year's been -- I have been doing this so long that people tend to forget -- they're like, 'Be yourself, be yourself,' and I'm still trying to figure out who that is," Gomez said. "I know I'm not perfect, but I know I have a lot of people that support me and love me, and I don't want to let anyone down, so I try to be the best I can be."
