LOS ANGELES, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Tuesday night that officers responded to reports of a single gunshot at the San Fernando Valley home of beleaguered 7th Heaven star Stephen Collins.

Police said later that they found no evidence of a shooting. They also said Collins was not at home.

"He's not dead; he's alive," an LAPD rep told People. "He was not at home at the time of the alleged incident, and there's no evidence of any gun shot."

One of Collins' neighbors, former Baywatch star Donna D'Errico, tweeted a photo of police officers outside his house. She wrote in a since-deleted tweet that she heard Collins had shot himself. She later apologized.

Earlier Tuesday, TMZ published alleged audio recordings of Collins confessing to the molestation of underage girls in New York and Los Angeles.

The New York Police Department is investigating the tapes in conjunction with members of the LAPD.

Collins played father and pastor Eric Camden on The WB drama 7th Heaven for 11 seasons.
