NEW YORK, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Canadian actor Michael Cera made his Broadway debut Thursday on the revival of Kenneth Lonergan's play This Is Our Youth.

The drama premiered off-Broadway in October 1996 and closed in November of that same year. This Is Our Youth follows the lives of three wealthy friends in their late teens for 48-hours and is set in March 1982. The play's original cast featured Mark Ruffalo, Josh Hamilton and Missy Yager as the three main characters: Warren, a 19-year-old who steals $150,000 from his abusive father; Dennis, his drug dealing friend and Jessica, the object of Warren's affection.

Cera plays Warren in the revival of the play with Kieran Culkin and Tavi Gevinson playing the other two characters.

This Is Our Youth returned to New York Thursday, following a series of exclusive premieres in August, to mostly positive reviews.

The New York Times praised Cera's efforts as Warren, claiming he "achieves something remarkable: the sense of an amorphous being assuming and losing shape in the course of roughly 12 hours."

"All lanky limbs in search of a stance, his Warren reminds you of the adolescent agony of not quite knowing who you are while being smart enough to know that you don't know."

The play, directed by Anna D. Shapiro, will run though January 4, 2015.
