LOS ANGELES, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Giuliana Rancic was not expecting to find a container of liquid marijuana when she asked Sarah Silverman to show her what was inside her clutch at the 66th Annual Emmy Awards Monday night -- but she did.

Both Rancin and Silverman where rummaging through the comedian's tiny gold clutch when they ran into Silverman's vaporizing pen -- which is legal in the state of California granted that she has a medical marijuana license.

"Um my pot, it's liquid pot," Silverman explained before Rancic decided to move on to another item.

"It's legal," the comedian told reporters when asked if she was high during a post-show interview. "I like to have a puff as a treat, at appropriate times."

Silverman, 43, won an Emmy at the event for Outstanding Variety Special for her HBO special We are Miracles. After her name was announced, she ran to the stage barefoot, and to conclude her acceptance speech, told the crowd, "We're all just made of molecules, and we're hurtling through space right now. Thank you."
