HOUSTON, June 26 (UPI) -- Michael Strahan has donated $100,000 to his alma mater.

The 42-year-old Live! with Kelly & Michael host and retired NFL star made the donation to Texas Southern University's "Oceans of Soul" marching band. The money will help the band get to Canton, Ohio in August to play at Strahan's induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

"We have a special edge," drum major Darius Harris tells ABC News 13. "We bring things out to light that other bands cannot bring."

Ocean of Soul's goal was to raise $150,000 in 30 days, and Strahan's donation helped the band meet that mark. Comedian Kevin Hart pledged $50,000 earlier this month.

"If we surpass our goal, monies will be used for scholarships to band students," TSU associate vice president Eva Pickens says.

Strahan debuted for the New York Giants in 1993, and remained with the team until his retirement in 2007. In addition to hosting Kelly & Michael, he is a football analyst on Fox NFL Sunday. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this year, and will be inducted alongside Derrick Brooks, Ray Guy, Claude Humprey, Walter Jones, Andre Reed and Aeneas Williams on August 2.
