Chris Brown rejects plea deal in D.C. assault case

WASHINGTON, June 26 (UPI) -- Chris Brown rejected a plea deal for his misdemeanor assault case in a Washington D.C. courtroom on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old singer didn't accept the deal offered by prosecutor Kevin Chambers because the parties failed to agree on what actually happened on the night he was arrested for reportedly assaulting a man outside D.C.'s W hotel last October.

"They wanted him to read from a script that wasn't true," the singer's lawyer, Mark Geragos, told reporters. While the prosecution maintains both Brown and his bodyguard Christopher Hollosy punched Parker Adams after he tried to take a selfie with the singer on Oct. 27, 2013, Brown's team claims Hollosy acted alone.

The proposed deal required that Brown plead guilty in exchange for time served, with no additional time or probation. In light of the new developments, the singer will have to undergo a trial that could land him back behind bars.

Hollosy, who was convicted of misdemeanor assault in April, but has not yet been sentenced, is expected to testify in Brown's upcoming trial.

Brown is still on probation for the 2009 beating of his then-girlfriend, Riahanna. The singer's trial has been set for September 8 and is expected to last a day and a half.
