LOS ANGELES, June 24 (UPI) -- Predator is the latest series to receive a reboot.

An all new movie is currently in the works at 20th Century Fox. Shane Black will write and direct the film, and original producer John Davis will return to produce.

Black also has existing ties to the franchise, having appeared in Predator (1987) as the ill-fated Rick Hawkins. The director's other credits include the screenplays for Lethal Weapon (1986), Last Action Hero (1993) and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), and co-writing and directing Iron Man 3 (2013).

The original movie starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer, the leader of an elite team tasked with recovering an abducted minister from Central America. During the mission, the team members are killed off and stalked by Predators, sentient alien beings who hunt other dangerous species for sport. The film inspired two sequels, Predator 2 (1990) and Predators (2010), and two crossover films with the Alien franchise, Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007).

Black has two other projects in the works, 1970s crime movie The Nice Guys and the pulp comic-based Doc Savage. The director has been in talks with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe for the former, and Chris Hemsworth for the latter.
