'Crocodile Hunter's daughter Bindi Irwin criticized for her stance on modesty

SYDNEY, June 24 (UPI) -- Caitlin Stasey does not agree with Bindi Irwin's stance on modesty.

The 24-year-old Neighbours actress took to Twitter this week to write an "open letter" to the 15-year-old daughter of late Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin. Bindi had expressed the belief that young girls should cover up and dress "their age" in a recent interview with News Corp Australia.

"I'm a big advocate for young girls dressing their age," she shared. "I look around at a lot of young girls that are my age and they're always trying to dress older. Whether it's wearing revealing clothes or hardly wearing any clothes at all, I feel really bad for them ... It kind of does the opposite where it makes you look younger and like you're trying too hard."

"I almost wish I could tell young girls, 'Look, in 10 years when you look back at yourself, you'll cringe honey, honestly,'" she continued. "Just dress like who you are. Don't try so hard. A pair of jeans a t-shirt is just as gorgeous and even makes you look classier ... The way I choose to dress, I want to influence other people around me I suppose."

Stasey responded to her comments on Sunday, writing, "Open letter to bindi, in ten years you'll wish you stood beside your shared sex rather than be proud you belittled their choices & agency. Also, in ten years, you'll deeply regret your affiliation and support of sea world... To hazard a guess."

Bindi came under fire earlier this year after she joined the SeaWorld team as a youth ambassador. The company is accused of mistreating its animals, an allegation explored in the documentary Blackfish.
