Deryck Whibley drops ex Avril Lavigne's name three years after their divorce

OTTAWA, June 16 (UPI) -- Avril Lavigne's ex husband Deryck Lavigne'Whibley was allowed to remove his ex's last name from his legal name on Thursday.

The Sum 41 rocker was granted a name change by a judge last week, more than three years after his divorce from the "Hello Kitty" singer. According to TMZ Whibley, 34, secretly added Lavigne's last name to his after the two tied the knot in 2006.

The singer allegedly submitted a request to change his name a few months after Lavigne married Nickelback frontman Chard Kroeger in 2013.

Whibley and Lavigne were married for four years before their 2010 divorce. News of of his name change comes one month after Whibley resurfaced in the spotlight with a blog post in which he disclosed his near-death struggle with alcoholism.
