Melanie Griffith files for divorce from Antonio Banderas due to 'irreconcilable differences'

LOS ANGELES, June 6 (UPI) -- Melanie Griffith has filed for divorce from Antonio Banderas after 18 years of marriage.

The 56-year-old actress cites "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. The couple married in May 1996, and were together for over eighteen years. They have one daughter together, named Stella, who will soon turn 18.

TMZ reports Griffith has requested spousal support, and sources tell the website the divorce is "amicable." The actress and Banderas own several properties in the U.S. and Spain, which may make the division of assets complicated further on down the road.

The divorce is Griffith's fourth and Banderas' second. Griffith was previously married to Don Johnson (twice) and Steven Bauer, and Banderas was married to Anna Leza from 1987 to 1996.
