NEW YORK, May 22 (UPI) -- Robin Roberts and Amber Laign made a rare red carpet appearance earlier this week.

The 53-year-old Good Morning America co-host and her 39-year-old girlfriend attended the 11th annual GLSEN Respect Awards Monday in New York. The GLSEN, or Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, aims to "ensure that every member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression."

Roberts was on hand to present the GSA of the Year Award to the Gay-Straight Alliance Club of Park City High School in Utah. She says in a statement on the GLSEN website that she is "delighted" to support the "an incredible organization that is working to end bullying and make schools safer for LGBT students."

"I'm particularly happy to lift up the leadership of students who fight for respect and dignity for all," she continues. "I've experienced firsthand how we all...have something to give. Students like the ones GLSEN works with all across the country are truly putting that something to work in the service of a better world."
