LOS ANGELES, May 20 (UPI) -- The makers of the highly anticipated Jem and the Holograms film adaptation have added two famous names its cast of relative unknowns.

Juliette Lewis, of August: Osage County and Natural Born Killers, has signed on for an unspecified supporting role, along with 1980's teen queen Molly Ringwald.

Nashville's Aubrey Peeples, who joined the project last month, will play Jem, the pink-haired front-woman of a sparkly band of girl rockers known as the Holograms. She's the alter-ego of Jerrica, who runs a record label and a foster home.

Rounding out the rest of the Holograms will be Stefanie Scott as Kimber, Aurora Perrineau as Shana, Hayley Kiyoko as Aja. Ryan Guzman will play Jem and Jerrica's purple-haired love interest, Rio.

John M. Chu, of GI Joe: Retaliation, will direct the film, based on the popular 1980s cartoon of the same name.
