LOS ANGELES, May 14 (UPI) -- CBS has decided against a series order for How I Met Your Dad, the buzzed-about How I Met Your Mother spinoff starring indie darling Greta Gerwig.

The news comes as a surprise to industry observers, some of whom were reporting last week that CBS has already ordered the show for its fall season.

But CBS entertainment chair Nina Tassler told reporters before its upfronts presentation on Wednesday that the network had creative issues with the pilot.

"There were elements on the pilot that didn't work out," she said. "We tried to work out about redoing the pilot. That's not happening right now. Sometimes you run into these kind of issues and you hope they can resolve themselves in that time frame."

20th Century Fox TV, which owns the show, was reportedly unwilling to rewrite the pilot and will consider shopping it to other networks.

"I'm heartsick," Tassler said.

How I Met Your Dad stars Gerwig as a "female Peter Pan" who's considering divorce.
