LOS ANGELES, May 7 (UPI) -- Katherine Heigl has faced years of bad press and numerous box-office failures since leaving Grey's Anatomy on shaky terms back in 2010. But the 35-year-old actress is primed for a TV comeback.

NBC announced Tuesday that it had picked up State of Affairs for a series run.

Heigl plays Charlie Tucker, a CIA analyst who briefs the U.S. president (Alfre Woodard) on national security issues. She was also engaged to the president's son, until he was killed in a terrorist attack.

"Our show is a go! Big thank you to an amazing cast and crew," Heigl tweeted Wednesday.

Heigl and her mother, Nancy, will co-executive produce the show.
