AUCKLAND, New Zealand, May 5 (UPI) -- Lorde has a reputation for frankness when it comes to the media. She often points out Photoshopped pictures of herself and took one radio show host to task when he made lesbian jokes about her friendship with Taylor Swift.

Over the weekend, the 17-year-old singer launched a Twitter campaign against one particular member of the paparazzi. She said New Zealand photographer Simon Runting has been "stalking" her.

"This man has been stalking me, photographing me and refusing me privacy. i am scared of him. he frequents central akl," Lorde tweeted, along with a photo of Runting.

"This should not be an accepted standard for young women or anyone in this industry," she added. "I refuse to stay complicit and i refuse to stay passive about men systematically subjecting me to extreme fear."

Lorde also tweeted a link to Runting's Facebook page.

"I understand that this comes with the territory. i do not understand why I should be complacent," she said.

Rihanna complained about Runting last year, posting some of his photographs to her Instagram account.

"I hate these n***** more than Nazis," she wrote at the time.
