LOS ANGELES, May 4 (UPI) -- The summer movie season is off to a roaring start with the $92-million debut of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, having already pulled in $30.5 million on opening day Friday.

Those numbers put Spidey just behind Marvel's Captain America: Winter Soldier, which became the highest-opener of 2014 with a $95 weekend haul last month.

Despite mixed critical reviews, the filmed earned a B+ CinemaScore with its overall audience. More than half of ticketholders were under 25. They have the film an A- CinemaScore.

"It’s a great start to an incredible run,” Rory Bruer, Sony’s president of worldwide distribution, told Deadline. “To have everything open now here and overseas, these are fantastic results across the board and we are in great shape. We’ve had stunning openings and great holds across the international markets."

Spider-Man 2's opening numbers can't really be compared to its predecessor, which opened on the Tuesday before 4th of July weekend back in 2012. That film rebooted the franchise with $137 million in six days.

Cameron Diaz, Kate Upton and Leslie Mann's revenge comedy, The Other Woman, dropped to second place with a respectable $14.2 million, while Christian film, Heaven Is for Real came in third with $8.7 million.
