WASHINGTON, April 21 (UPI) -- Chris Brown's bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, was found guilty of misdemeanor assault in a Washington, D.C. courtroom on Monday.

The conviction stems from a 2013 outside the city's W Hotel, where a 20-year-old Maryland student says Brown and Hollosy punched him.

Senior Judge Patricia A. Wynn rejected Hollosy's assertion that he was trying to protect Brown and his property during the incident. Wynn called his reaction "excessive."

Wynn also granted Brown's request for a delay in his case and pushed the 24-year-old singer's trial back to Wednesday.
