ABC anchor Josh Elliott will leave Good Morning America for NBC Sports.

Elliott announced his decision on Sunday after months of heated negotiation with the ABC network. He has been with Good Morning America since May 2011, and ABC News correspondent Amy Robach will replace him as anchor on the show.

"As many of you know, we have been negotiating with Josh these past several months," ABC News president Ben Sherwood wrote in a staff email. "In the end, Josh felt he deserved a different deal and so he chose a new path."

Elliott has taken an offer at NBC Sports and will provide coverage at the network's signature events, including the Triple Crown horse races, the Olympics and Sunday Night Football. He will not, however, replace any of the current sports analysts or talent.

Elliott tweeted his congratulations to Robach on Monday, calling her a "most deserving colleague" and a "dear friend."

Fellow Good Morning America anchor Lara Spencer decided to remain with the show last week, and has finalized a long-term deal with the ABC network.
