Mick Jagger said his final goodbye to girlfriend L'Wren Scott at her funeral on Tuesday. The New York chief medical examiner had ruled the death a suicide after Scott was found hanged in her apartment last Monday.
The ceremony was a private affair that took place at the historic Hollywood Forever cemetery. Jagger, his daughters Karis and Jade, and other family members and friends all spoke at the funeral to honor Scott's life. Her niece, Hannah, began her tribute with, "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?" and went on to recite the rest of Shakespeare's Sonnet 18.
Scott was born Laura Bambrough on April 28, 1964. She modeled in Paris in her early years, and later moved to California to become a stylist for stars such as Madonna, Julia Roberts and Christina Hendricks. Scott launched her first clothing design collection in 2006, later collaborated with Lancôme, and started her own handbag line in 2011.
She and Jagger had been dating since 2003.
"I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way," Jagger wrote on his website last Tuesday. "We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me."
