It doesn't look like we'll see an end to YA film franchises just yet.

Divergent, the first movie adaptation of Veronica Roth's widely successful teen sci-fi trilogy, took in $56 million during its opening weekend, topping the box office despite lukewarm reviews.

The film, which starred Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet and Ashley Judd, didn't fare as well as comparable YA franchise openers like Twilight ($70 million) and Hunger Games ($153 million). But its $56 million debut will be enough to inspire confidence in its sequels -- Lionsgate has already given Divergent's follow-up, Insurgent, the go-ahead.

Muppets Most Wanted didn't perform to expectations on its opening weekend, pulling in only $16.5 million. The $50 million film starred Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey and Ty Burrell.
