The late "Glee" star plays a drug addict in his final film role.

Cory Monteith was best known for his work as a goofy football player with a passion for music on Ryan Murphy's hit, Glee, where he met his girlfriend Lea Michele. But the 31-year-old Canadian had completed other roles before his sudden death of an alcohol and heroin overdose last summer stunned fans.

In his last film before his passing, McCanick, Monteith plays a drug-addict hunted down by a narcotics detective, Eugene “Mack” McCanick, played by David Morse. Monteith, who dramatically changed his voice for the film, appears only in brief glimpses in the trailer below. But E! News obtained a more substantial look at Monteith's character in an exclusive clip.

McCanick director Josh C. Waller told the Los Angeles Times last year that Monteith seemed to his role "cathartic."

“In my mind, I was envisioning a teeny little drug guy [for the role], but Cory Monteith is this tall, strapping man,” Waller said. “But when I met with him, he wanted to do it so badly. He was very vocal about his past, and said he wanted to tap into things from his youth that he hadn’t been able to use as an actor yet.”

McCanick debuts at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.
