LOS ANGELES, March 7 (UPI) -- Sharknado 2: The Second One will debut on The SyFy Channel at 9 p.m. PT on Thursday, July 31.

The original Sharknado first aired on SyFy in July of last year, and starred Tara Reid (American Pie), Ian Ziering (Beverly Hills, 90210), and John Heard (Home Alone). The movie was largely considered a B horror flick, but gained notoriety when celebrities such as Damon Lindelof (co-creator of Lost), Olivia Wilde (Tron: Legacy), and Corey Monteith (Glee) took to Twitter about the film.

The first film followed the character Fin (Ziering) and his family and friends after waterspouts flood Los Angeles and lift man-eating sharks into the water flooding the city.

Sharknado 2 will take place in New York. Tara Reid and Ian Ziering will reprise their roles from the first movie, with Vivica A. Fox, Kelly Osbourne and Judah Friedlander to join the cast. Andy Dick, Mark McGrath and Judd Hirsch are also rumored to appear.
